Obit: "one of first women in the United States to ride a bicycle." Ill for 3 yrs before death. Shortly after her marriage, she accompanied Reuben to England where he performed in a bicycle exhibition. They brought back with them 3 women's bicycles, which were believed to be the first such bicyles in the US. In 1902 she helped organize the Rochester Mothers' Club in School 2, then in Kings Street. It was taken by photographer C.M. Elton in Palmyra, N.Y., in 1872. On the back of the photo is the notation that he saved the first sheet from each run of the translation of the Golden Plates by Joe Smith. (This was the custom of printers in that day.) Ultimately, those sheets were determined to be the very first printed copy of the Book of Mormon. He sold it to Palmyra banker Phinney Sexton, who sold it to the Mormon Church for $100,000. It is now in the Temple in Salt Lake City. This account of the printer Major John H. Gilbert is backed up by a booklet published by The Palmyra Courier in 1938, called "ABC History of Palmrya and the Beginning of 'Mormonism,"' pages 62-64.
